IBC37: Success by the Numbers
August 8, 2011
Our 37th Intensive Bioethics Course (June 6-10, 2011) was deemed an unmitigated
success by attendees, as indicated by an overall course evaluation of 3.7 out
of a possible 4.0. The event also left all of us at the KIE with new friends
and colleagues from around the world: with a total census of 102, IBC37 drew
with participants from 23 states of the US and 15 foreign countries
(Argentina to Uganda). Attendees included physicians, nurses,
chaplains, attorneys, government agency personnel, a repeat group from Norway's
National Ethics Committee, and many others.
In addition to plenary session lectures from our Senior Research Scholars, we were pleased to include Anita L. Allen (University of Pennsylvania Law School) and David Wendler (Department of Bioethics, NIH) as guest lecturers. Small Groups, which many participants considered to be the best part of the IBC, featured leaders drawn from experts at the NIH and KIE.
We look forward to IBC38, "Setting Your Ethical Compass," June 4-8, 2012, and will be posting registration and course information within the next few months.
