Janice Swiatek-Kelley, Ph.D., Assumes BRL Directorship
December 7, 2012
The world's most comprehensive collection of bioethics materials, the BRL hosts visiting researchers from around the world in addition to serving as a rich resource for the Georgetown community.
Dr. Swiatek-Kelley served as Director of the Quinnipiac's Health Sciences Library and formerly Associate Director of the Quinnipiac University Library.
Her professional background includes work in for-profit, non-profit, and academic libraries with a primary emphasis on health sciences.
Her experience with the National Network of Libraries of Medicine—New England Region centered on promoting use of National Library of Medicine resources to the health care community.
This led, in part, to her dissertation research that focused on physicians and information literacy skills.
"I am honored to join Georgetown University, a global leader in bioethics since the field first began 40 years ago. The world is confronted with thorny issues that have become more prevalent as science expands to controversial areas beyond medicine. The Bioethics Research Library has an extraordinary collection. We are on the cusp of developing new methods and services that will facilitate the exploration of this fascinating field, and I look forward to working closely with the University community," Dr. Swiatek-Kelley said.
Dr. Swiatek-Kelley's priorities include expansion of digital resources and curation of the BRL's special holdings.
She will also be a key partner in the EthicsLab Initiative, a partnership between the KIE and CNDLS to design next-generation learning tools for the ethical issues of the 21st century.
