Engaging Bioethics: Does Mother Nature Know Best?

KIE graduate fellow Kelly Heuer examines the so-called “wisdom of nature” argument in bioethics and finds it lacking in an editorial in The Hoya. The editorial is part of the Engaging Bioethics series.

“When contemplating some proposed intervention, any reminder of the very human capacity to do foolish things is a good one,” argues Heuer. “But when important public goods are at stake … appeals to nature’s wisdom should be met with skepticism, not silence.”
