Georgetown Mourns the Passing of Sargent Shriver

Georgetown University joins many citizens and organizations around the world in mourning the death of Sargent Shriver.

His longstanding commitment to public service, through development of the Peace Corps, and to meeting the needs of the disenfranchised through his efforts to combat poverty improved the lives of individuals and communities around the world. In 1964, Georgetown honored Sargent Shriver with an honorary degree for the work he had begun in these important areas.

We are grateful for his family’s support of our Kennedy Institute of Ethics, a leader in research on important bioethics issues confronting the world, and are pleased that this work will continue to be a part of his enduring legacy for years to come. His determination and dedication to improving the lives of others will live on in the organizations he started and the many individuals he has inspired. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this time.
