The Kennedy Institute of Ethics (KIE) at Georgetown University announced that that next phase of its Integrated On-Line Teaching and Learning Initiative will be launched on April 15, 2014.
Comprising the best of Massive Online Open Course (MOOC) production and real time/real world student-teacher interaction, KIE is leading development of learning environments crafted in Georgetown’s approach to higher education: caring for the whole person and our community with an intellectual rigor, and engaging actively to effect positive change in our world. The Spring 2014 program launch will significantly advance KIE’s capabilities to enhance individuals’ and groups’ ability to think deeply and engage constructively in the most powerful and complex issues in bioethics.
“The launch of Introduction to Bioethics will significantly expand KIE’s reach, providing bioethics education to unprecedented numbers of individuals,” said KIE Director, Professor Maggie Little. “We had hoped to have this program operational this fall. However as we worked to develop a learning environment that takes full advantage of the best of a Georgetown education with 21st century new media tools, we realized pushing back the launch date would allow us to more effectively seize the opportunity to craft a game changing on-line teaching and learning environment — not just broadcast video of traditional classroom-based lectures.”
