KIE Scholar Publishes New Book

KIE Senior Research Scholar John Keown has produced a second edition of his widely acclaimed book Euthanasia, Ethics and Public Policy. It will be published in the US by Cambridge University Press in late November.

The book, a significantly revised, updated and expanded version argues against the legalisation of voluntary euthanasia and/or physician-assisted suicide on the ground that, even if they were ethically defensible in certain ‘hard cases’, neither could be effectively controlled by law.
In his Foreword, Lord Judge, the former Lord Chief Justice of England, describes the book as “magisterial”. Professor Alexander Capron, the leading US health lawyer, commends it as “the classic text” on the quintessential issue in modern medicine.
