Heejoon Ahn is Associate Professor, Division of Hematology and Oncology, Department of Internal Medicine, Gangneung Asan Hospital, University of Ulsan College of Medicine, Gangneung, South Korea. He received his M.D. degree and M.S. (in Sciences) from the College of Medicine, Kangwon National University in Chun-chon City, Kangwon, Republic of Korea. His Ph.D. (in Sciences) is from the Graduate School, Catholic Kwandong University, Gangneung City, Kangwon, Republic of Korea. His professional focus has been primarily on the treatment of advance-staged cancer patients and chemotherapy. His daily practice requires that he think outside of medical textbooks and guidelines. He always tries to make evidence-based decisions based on science and medicine. He hopes to learn more about various ethical approaches to bring that information to bear on his practice. He is working on a research project titled “The Proper and Ethical Treatment of Incurable Cancer Patients.” Professor John Keown, D.Phil., Ph.D., D.C.L. is serving as his faculty mentor. Joon is a member of the Korean Medical Association and the Korean Association of Internal Medicine. He received a Travel Award from the Asian Clincal Oncology Society in 2012. He has published many articles related to his work as an oncologist. Joon was a Visiting Researcher at KIE from August 1, 2018 to July 30, 2019.
